CONTEMPORARY LUXURY SANCTUARY IN ZAMBIA

Ideally located in the heart of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, where the rhythm of life is dictated by the wilderness itself. Chichele Presidential just reopened as an extraordinary safari lodge awaiting the discerning traveler. Originally built as a private residence for Zambia’s president, Chichele Presidential today stands as an exclusive portal to one of Africa’s most revered safari experiences — a place where elegance and authenticity meet under the vast African skies. Perched on a hilltop with sweeping views over the Luangwa Valley, Chichele Presidential carries with it a legacy of privilege and refinement. Commissioned in the 1970s by President Kenneth Kaunda, the lodge was designed to host visiting dignitaries and heads of state, offering them the rare luxury of absolute privacy in one of Africa’s most pristine landscapes. Today, its stately charm remains intact, blending the grace of a colonial era with the warmth of Zambian hospitality.

Chichele’s architecture whispers of a time when attention to detail was an art form. While many areas have been newly built, several original parts of the Lodge have been respectfully refurbished by the architects and designers—preserving the spirit of the past while elevating comfort to today’s standards. Each of the ten newly built Vista Suites boasts high ceilings, four-poster beds draped in mosquito netting, and windows that open onto private verandas including a private plunge pool and outdoor shower. The terraces are perfect for sunrise coffee or a glass of wine as the sun dips below the horizon. Furnished with vintage pieces and delicate touches of African artistry, the lodge feels both intimate and grand, offering a sense of place that is increasingly hard to find.

While the lodge's interiors evoke a timeless luxury, it is the outside world that truly captivates. South Luangwa is often referred to as the “Valley of the Leopard,” famed for its dense population of big cats and abundant wildlife. Here, game drives are not just outings — they are soul-stirring journeys into the wild, led by expert guides with an encyclopedic knowledge of the land. Whether you are tracking a pride of lions at dawn or witnessing elephants cross the Luangwa River at dusk, every encounter feels profoundly personal. For those seeking deeper immersion, daytime walking safaris and night drives are available, a signature of South Luangwa revealing a secret world of nocturnal creatures and the haunting calls of the bush after dark.

Chichele Presidential offers a uniquely intimate safari experience, ideal for couples, families, or small groups seeking privacy without compromise. Meals are an occasion in themselves: elegant candlelit dinners served at the dining deck or by the campfire and traditional afternoon teas recalling the classic safari era. Every detail, from the perfectly chilled sundowner to the warmth of the attentive staff, is carefully curated to make guests feel like they have stepped into a personal dream of Africa.

True luxury today also carries an ethical dimension, and Chichele Presidential is deeply committed to preserving the treasures of the Luangwa Valley. Partnering with local conservation organizations, the lodge supports anti-poaching efforts, community development, and environmental stewardship — ensuring that future generations may also experience the wonder of this extraordinary place. For guests seeking more than a safari, Chichele Presidential is a haven of authenticity, connection and the rare feeling of being truly far away, offering an unique journey beyond imagination. It is a destination where history and nature meet, where every sunrise promises discovery, and where the spirit of Zambia reveals itself in every stirring breeze.
