WHAT ARE THE AREAS OF COLLABORATION BETWEEN UZBEKISTAN AND THE UAE?

Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a consistent and pragmatic foreign policy has created a new environment based on mutual trust and close cooperation in Uzbekistan's relations with foreign countries. The relationship between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates has been developing with particular momentum. Shared historical roots, similar traditions and values, and the sacred religion of Islam have deeply connected the peoples of both countries.

Thanks to the mutual trust, unified political will and joint efforts of the leaders, bilateral relations have been strengthening year by year. Uzbekistan's strategic location, natural resources and growing economic potential, combined with the UAE's developed financial sector, experienced companies and innovative technologies, are contributing to the expansion of mutually beneficial relations. The increasing interest of UAE business circles in our country is evidence of the high level of trust in our nation.

WHAT WERE THE KEY OUTCOMES OF PRESIDENT MIRZIYOYEV'S VISIT TO THE UAE?

The official visit at the beginning of 2025 marked a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. The President participated in the opening of Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week and the ceremony for awarding the Sheikh Zayed Sustainable Development Award. In his speech, the President stated that the strategic goal of New Uzbekistan is to ensure environmental sustainability and transition to a green development model based on resource efficiency for economic growth.

This is one of the reasons 2025 has been declared the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan. As President Mirziyoyev put it, "In the field of green energy, the United Arab Emirates will remain our reliable and strategic partner." The driving force behind bilateral cooperation is precisely green energy.

Uzbekistan has on average 320 sunny days a year; according to experts, solar power plants have the potential to produce 500 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, eight times more than total national demand. The President proposed to further strengthen regional cooperation in this area and turn Central Asia into one of the centres of green economic development and clean energy. At the end of high-level negotiations, a declaration was signed to establish a Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

WHAT ARE THE MOST PROMISING AREAS FOR FUTURE ECONOMIC COLLABORATION?

Since 2021, trade has increased over 20 percent annually, reaching nearly $650 million by the end of 2024. More than 320 companies with Emirati capital are operating in our country. In recent years, the investment portfolio with the UAE has exceeded $26 billion. Renewable energy projects have become the main driving force.

Companies and funds such as Masdar, Mubadala Investment, ADQ and ADFD are implementing various trade and economic projects in Uzbekistan. The increasing interest of UAE business circles reflects a growing level of trust in Uzbekistan. Ultimately, a significant goal has been set to increase mutual trade volume tenfold by 2030.

Cultural and humanitarian relations cover education, science, information technologies, innovations, sports and religion. The UAE is one of our closest and most beneficial partners in education. The President School in Tashkent won the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Prize 2025 in the Global Middle Schools category. A total of 5,980 project applications were received from 156 countries, and Uzbek students developed a project on rainwater harvesting in 150 schools. The award was personally presented by the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF UZBEKISTAN-UAE RELATIONS?

Based on meetings between the leaders of both countries, we have set the goal of taking bilateral relations to a completely new level in quality and content. New strategic directions include digitalisation, artificial intelligence, investments in green energy and the development of urban infrastructure. A significant goal has been set to increase mutual trade volume tenfold by 2030.

We have also set the goal of developing joint educational programmes to train highly qualified specialists in artificial intelligence at the Mohammed bin Zayed University. One of the most important tasks ahead is to plan and successfully hold the official visit of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to Uzbekistan. This future high-level visit will become a historic event in the development of relations between the two countries.
